VANDALS are being blamed for two “nuisance” fires in a Warrington park last night.

The two incidents – less than two hours apart – were in a park off Winwick Road, Longford.

The first involved a bin, shortly before 6pm. Firefighters from Warrington Fire Station extinguished the blaze and appealed for information from the public.

A spokesperson said “Setting fires like this deliberately presents firefighters being available other incidents where life or property could be at risk.”

The crew was back at the same park shortly after 8 pm when a fire multiple litter bins and a shopping trolley was reported. A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the flames and police were alerted to the incident.

Anyone with information about either incident was asked to call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Early today, just after 8am, firefighters from Warrington were also called to Partisan Green, Kingswood to tackle a wheelie bin fire in the garden of a house.
Gas to the property was isolated while the crew dealt with the fire.
