Lengthy delays on M56 as air ambulance attends collision between two HGVs

LENGTHY delays were reported on the M56 at Stretton, Warrington, following a road traffic collision involving two HGVs shortly before 9am this morning with the air ambulance and emergency services attending at the scene.

Three fire engines from Lymm, Warrington and Runcorn attended following reports of one person being trapped following the collision on the eastbound carriageway between junctions nine and 10..

On arrival, the person was out of the vehicle and was handed to the care of paramedics.

Lanes one and two were closed while the incident was dealt with and an air ambulance also attended.

The collision resulted in a large oil spillage with lanes one and two remaining closed during the cleanup operation, causing lengthy tailbacks of traffic.

UPDATE 12:40 Lane 2 of (3) has now been reopened. Lane 1 of (3) remains closed for vehicle recovery and on-going clean-up work at the scene, following a multiple vehicle collision. Please allow extra time for your journey as delays remain.
