A concerned mother has issued a warning following an attempted abduction on her teenage daughter near Padgate campus on Friday night, with police appealing for information from the public.

The youngster, who was badly shaken has been receiving support from specialist officers, while police are also stepping up patrols in the area to help provide reassurance.

The 17-year-old daughter was walking home down Locking Stumps Lane towards Padgate campus near the motorway bridge, between 9:45-10 pm when a white car pulled up and a male driver wound the window down.

Her daughter approached the window thinking he was asking for directions. The driver asked where she was going and she said home. He asked her if she wanted a lift.

She said no thank you and walked off. He then got out of his car and grabbed her from behind, telling her she was pretty and coming home with him.

“My daughter kicked out backward and said to get off or she’ll ring the police. She kept kicking and eventually he got off her.”

The car was white, left-hand drive and although she didn’t see the reg, it may possibly be foreign plates.

She said the man was of possible Turkish culture, wearing all black and about 5ft 5.

The mother added:”Please keep an eye out and make your kids aware.”

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 9.45pm on Friday 18 March a 17-year-old girl was walking along an alleyway toward Locking Stumps Lane. As she got onto Locking Stumps Lane she saw a white four-door car in the road with what looked like foreign plates. The vehicle also appeared to be left-hand drive.

“As she walked past the car a man in the car called her over. She went to the car and the man asked her if she wanted a lift, she declined and walked off. She was then followed by the man who tried to get her into his vehicle. She managed to run to safety.

“The suspect is described as possibly of Turkish origin and was wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

Insp Ruth Atherton said: “My officers are supporting the teenager who was left shaken by her ordeal. This has understandably caused a lot of concern and we are making enquiries to trace the suspect. I would urge anyone who was in the area and saw the white car or captured anything of interest on their dashcam to contact us.

“We are also increasing patrols in the area to provide reassurance and will be contacting local schools and colleges to give advice and support.”
