A container of aid is heading to a school project in Uganda thanks to volunteers at Warrington based Care UK Charity, who are also working tirelessly sending emergency aid to the Ukraine.

The volunteers helped pack a container with various items to support Lymm woman Helen Owen, who has helped build a school and church in a small village in Uganda, while providing housing for qualified teachers and paying them.

It follows Helen’s visit to a small village called Namataba a few miles outside Kampala in Uganda in 2014 where came across a village school which was little more than a chalkboard and a few wooden railings.

She has taken this project from a single funded mission to a registered charity that is being supported by Care UK, a charity founded by Appleton Thorn resident Nora Carlin, who responded after seeing the pictures of little Aylun Kurdi washed up on a Turkish beach in September 2015.

Since then the charity has grown considerably across the North West with over 200 volunteers, a warehouse at Northwich and two stores at Cockhedge, Warrington, also helping people closer to home.

The charity, which is also looking for volunteers is also working hard to supply aid to Ukraine.

Nora said: “We have already sent some funding and are also supplying food and medical supplies to the Ukraine where aid is urgently needed. They don’t need clothing. It is money food and medical supplies and items like nappies that they urgently need.

“There are literally millions of people who need support and help. This work will be ongoing for as long as required.”

Anyone who would like to help with volunteering can do via [email protected] where donations can also be made via paypal.
