Inspirational women conquer Mount Kilimanjaro

1

A group of inspirational women from Warrington has conquered Mount Kilimanjaro so far raising over £21,000 for the new Warrington Youth Zone.

Their challenge has been inspired by the late, great former High Sheriff of Cheshire and Warrington Youth Club Chair Nick ‘Hoppy’ Hopkinson MBE, who passed away last year.

One of the group was Kids Planet CEO, Clare Roberts, who is keen to keep raising money for the cause and support the troops efforts.

Many of the nurseries from across the whole of the UK have been taking part in activities and events, including explorer weeks, sports days, keeping fit week, and much more.

Bradford and Leeds nurseries took part in a 24-hour walkathon, as part of a fundraising week which included crazy hair days, face painting, superhero dress up and bake sales.

The Cheadle nursery had a fundraising week where parents guessed the size of a papier maché mountain, hosted a toddler bake-off, cake sale and sponsored walk.

Not only that, Frodsham nursery did a Valentines raffle, and Macclesfield even raffled an evening of babysitting courtesy of two practitioners, Faye and Becky!

And not forgetting the non-child facing staff, in February, the Training Academy team went for a lunchtime walk in Knutsford, and the Head Office team went to Lymm Dam.

There are lots of events ongoing, and their nurseries efforts have helped towards the total raised so far on the expeditions fundraising Just Giving Page, of £21,326.

Warrington Youth Zone is being developed by the national charity OnSide and will become the new home of local charity Warrington Youth Club.

The Youth Zone is an innovative, state-of-the-art, youth facility located right in the town centre which will be open every day of the year for young people from all backgrounds, aged seven to 19 (up to 25 with additional needs).

Set to open later this year, the Youth Zone is located on Dallam Lane, close to Warrington Central Station and Warrington Bus Station. Members will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including a four-court sports hall, music room, dance studio, gym, training kitchen, climbing walls and much more for a cost of £5 per year and only 50p per visit.
