MORPETH Town avenged their defeat at Cantilever Park 10 days ago with a 2-0 win over Warrington Town.
Ben Ramsey’s early goal set them on their way and Liam Henderson doubled the lead shortly before the break.
The Yellows had a handful of chances but never looked like getting back in to the match in the second half as Morpeth kept alive their play-off hopes.
One of their best openings came prior to Ramsey’s eighth minute opener. Jay Harris drove through midfield and laid off for Josh Amis, who couldn’t keep his shot down.
Minutes later at the other end, Ramsey cut in from the right on to his favoured left foot and opened up a shot that beat Dan Atherton in to the far corner.
Stefan Mols was linking play up well in the final third when the Yellows made it there, but the only shots they could muster were comfortable for ‘keeper Dan Lowson, controversially sent off in the return fixture.
The second goal was avoidable from a Warrington point of view, a pass across the box by Evan Gumbs sold Atherton short and Henderson nipped in and buried in to the top corner.
On-loan left-back Lewis Coulton hit over from a deep James Baillie cross as the Yellows went in 2-0 behind.
And they never really looked like getting back in to the game.
Evan Gumbs lashed a shot over from a corner before the best chance fell to Luke Duffy, who rolled past a defender and then had his poke at goal smothered by Lowson.
Henderson should have wrapped up the points with 10 minutes to play, shooting well over the bar when unmarked in the box.
The most dramatic moment in the second half came on 82 minutes, when the referee went to ground with an apparent injury.
After receiving treatment from the physios, he returned to his feet and oversaw the rest of a relatively uneventful second half as Morpeth secured the three points.
