SECLUDED in a corner of Warrington Market is Maskell + Josephson opticians. We’re only a little practice. You could walk right past and not know we’re here. You may already have!

And if you have, you’ve missed out on the best eye examination around. We have the latest, state of the art equipment meaning we can look after your eye health (and more!) better than ever before.

The best equipment is all well and good though, but it depends on who’s using it, and who’s looking at the results. In this case that would be our resident optometrist Graham Weir. He has over 25 years of experience in optics and teaches Optometry at The University Of Manchester. He’s the man you want on the other end of the equipment.

Here are just a couple of the eye conditions that the equipment can help us detect earlier and monitor better than almost anywhere else.

Glaucoma – the leading cause of preventable blindness in the world. The optical coherence tomographer (OCT for short) can detect glaucoma up to 4 years earlier than traditional techniques. The most common form of this disease has no symptoms until the damage is quite severe. This is why glaucoma is known as “the silent thief of sight”. The earlier it is picked up, the easier it is to treat.

Macular Degeneration – is a common eye problem affecting around 170 million people worldwide. Being able to take high quality photographs of the back of the eye, and using OCT scans can help with early detection of macular degeneration.
