WORK is underway on transforming the former Heathercroft care home at Woolston to provide specialist nursing care for 40 residents, while also creating 150 new jobs in the area.

Exemplar Health Care has started the refurbishment of the new complex needs care home that’ll provide specialist nursing care for adults living with a range of complex and high acuity needs.

The new home will be named Woolston Grange, replacing Heathercroft which closed permanently last year after being placed into special measures by the Care Quality Commission inspectors after being described ‘inadequate’ following an inspection.

The previous owners Ashberry Healthcare cited ‘current challenges facing the sector’ as the main reason behind the closure.

Now under new ownership, once completed, Woolston Grange will have 40 large bedrooms – each with an en-suite wet room – will provide specialist nursing care for adults living with dementia, acquired brain injury, complex mental health conditions and physical disabilities.

The home will be surrounded by an easy-access sensory garden and include a communal hub, living and dining spaces for residents and their friends and family to socialise.

The refurbishment was started last month and, when open, will join Exemplar Health Care’s existing 35 homes that provide specialist nursing care and rehabilitation for adults living with a range of complex needs.

Charlotte Lloyd, Developments Director at Exemplar Health Care, said: “We’re pleased to announce we are investing in a 40-bed specialist care home for the Warrington area.

“This community-based home will provide person-centered care and rehabilitation that focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills, and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.

“It is extremely rewarding to be able to support 40 local people with complex health needs and to provide over 150 stable and local jobs. As well as providing employment opportunities, there are plans in place to help Woolston House become part of the local community. It’s our ambition for Woolston Grange to be a place where we host community events, and where our residents can be part of the community, whether through work placements, local events or volunteering.”

“We’re working with reputable pre-application Planning Advisors and Architects to ensure that the design of the building is in keeping with the local area, whilst also meeting the needs of the residents who will live in the home.”

Contractors Pacy-Wheatley Ltd have been appointed to deliver the refurbishment of the new 40 Bed complex needs care home in Warrington, named Woolston Grange.

Having worked closely with the Clients team throughout the acquisition, survey and design phase, works have been able to commence on site within weeks of legal completion.

The project features 40-large individual bedrooms with en-suite wet room facilities, therapy room, sensory room, communal living and dining areas together with external courtyards and sensory gardens. The new service will specialise in supporting people living with dementia, acquired brain injury, complex mental health conditions and physical disabilities.

Work commenced on site December 2021 and will be complete Q4 2022. The build challenges are working with the existing building and trying to anticipate and react quickly to potential areas of difficulty, whilst establishing the Exemplar Health Care brand within the neighbouring residential community.

Exemplar Health Care provides specialist nursing care and rehabilitation for adults living with a range of complex and high acuity needs, with over 35 homes and OneCare services across England.

In addition to opening its fifth home in the local area, Exemplar Health Care is continuing its search for other locations where it can open more homes across the region. The business is engaging with local authorities to identify future locations. For more information, visit https://www.exemplarhc.com/care-homes/land-wanted.
