Emergency road closure for urgent branch felling works at Stretton

A stretch of the A559 Northwich Road at Lower Stretton is to close for urgent branch felling works to prevent the risk of head-on collisions.

High-sided vehicles are currently being forced into the centre of the carriageway by overhanging branches.

Warrington Borough Council has given notice that with effect from 15th February 2022, for a period not exceeding five days, A559 Northwich Road from its junction with Summit Close to Stockley Lane, will be closed to vehicular traffic.

The emergency closure will be in place from 15th February 2022 to 17th February 2022 between the hours of 9pm and 5am, as and when the signs are in place on-site. The road will be open from 5am to 9pm the following evening. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works.

The alternative route will be via A49 Tarporley Road, A533 Runcorn Road, Soot Hill, New Road, Marbury Road, Warrington Road, The Avenue and Gibb Hill.

The reason for the emergency closure is to allow Warrington Borough Council to carry out urgent branch felling to stop high-sided vehicles from encroaching into the opposite carriageway which increases the risk of head-on injury collision occurrence.
