AN appeal for information has been launched following a “shocking incident” after an elderly man had sentimental items stolen after waking to find a burglar in his home at Glazebrook, during the early hours of Monday morning.

Sometime between 2.30am and 3.30am on Monday 20 December, a man had gained entry to a property in the Glazebrook Lane area of Warrington.

The elderly occupant awoke to see the offender and attempted to stop the man but he managed to get away and flee the property.

It is believed that a wallet and two gold coloured rings were taken during the incident.

The offender is described as a man, around 5ft 10in and was wearing all dark clothing with a woollen hat and a face covering.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

PC Matt Hankin said: “Home is where someone should feel the most safe but when a burglar strikes, it no longer feels a safe place.

“With Christmas just a matter of days away, this is a shocking incident which has left the victim without items of sentimental value to him.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen something that did not look quite right or perhaps captured CCTV or dashcam footage around the area to get in touch with us.

“Please ensure your property is secure and if you see anything suspicious, please report this to the police.”
