WARRINGTON Rylands bounced back from their disappointing defeat at Runcorn last week be riding roughshod over a Ramsbottom United team which never recovered from losing centre-back George Hyatt sent off in the 20th minute.
A bitterly cold wind swirling around Gorsey Lane made it difficult for both sides to control the ball at times.
Both goalkeepers were called into action in the opening minutes, Rylands Graeme McCall tipping a shot from Jay Rother over the bar and Ramsbottom’s Tom Stewart turning a Jack Tinning shot around the post, while McCall did well to come off his line to smother the ball at the feet of the onrushing Domiane Rouse.
The game’s big moment came in the 19th minute when Andy Scarisbrick slipped the ball into the path of Kane Drummond who as he was entering the penalty area was hauled down by Hyatt. The Ramsbottom man’s afternoon was over when referee Oliver Noonan produced a red card.
Declan Walker stepped up and drilled his spot-kick wide of the target.
Rylands hit the front in the 27th minute, Drummond took the ball off Ramsbottom’s Tom Kennedy just outside the penalty area, he slid the ball to Joe Bunney who drilled the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Five minutes later Bunney, despite a suspicion of offside, made it two, set away down the left wing by Drummond, he cut inside two defenders before rifling a shot into the top corner of the net. Bunney almost completed his hat-trick a couple of minutes later but Stewart did well to tip over his shot from distance.
Walker finally got his name on the score sheet two minutes before the break. Drummond delivered a dangerous cross which Stewart could only palm onto Walker’s head for him to nod home from close range.
The second half opened with Stewart tipping a long range shot from Warren Gerrad aver the bar before Adam Buxton scored Rylands 4th goal in the 52nd minute diverting a Scarisbrick shot past Stewart after Ramsbottom could only half clear a corner.
Bunney completed his hat-trick on the hour mark. Receiving the ball on the right hand side of the penalty area, he cut inside and drilled a left footed shot low and hard past Stewart.
In the 68th minute the ball broke to Drummond on the edge of the area, his first time shot saw the ball bounce just in front off and over a diving Stewart into the net for Rylands 6th goal. Drummond provided the 7th seven minutes later when Scarisbrick ended a driving run
from midfield into the heart of a dispirited Ramsbottom outfit by sliding the ball into the path of Drummond who slotted the ball home.
Despite Rylands having several later chances to add to their tally, Walker completed the rout in the 78th minute firing the ball low past Stewart.
