THE marriage certificate of the Captain of the Titanic and one of the largest Anglo-Saxon cross arms in the country are just some of the items on display during an open afternoon at St Oswald’s Church, Winwick, tomorrow, Sunday (Oct 31).

The historic St Oswald’s Church, Winwick will be holding an open afternoon from 1 pm-3 pm. There will be people and information on hand to help with your visit.
St Oswald’s is a very historic church, parts of which date back to the 1350s.

It is a Grade 1 listed building, which sits within the English Civil war battlefield of 1648. A church was listed on the same site in the Domesday Book of 1086.

Visitors are invited to come along and see one of the largest Anglo-Saxon cross arms in the country or if you prefer something more recent they have on display a copy of the marriage certificate of the captain of the Titanic Edward Smith, who was married in the church to Sarah E. Pennington.

Tea and coffee will be available and all are welcome.
