WARRINGTON-based United Utilities has won a top award for its investor communications at this year’s PLC awards.

The water company picked up the best investor communications award at a ceremony held in London.
Judges praised United Utilities for its annual report, saying the ‘group’s core purpose was communicated well’ and that ‘the company provides a clear five-year plan of future objectives.’
The panel also said that ‘ESG is central to their communications and they make good use of charts, diagrams and visual aids to break down complex information.’
The Warrington-based company fought off tough competition from five other listed companies, including North West firm AJ Bell PLC. The PLC awards was founded in 1987. The awards are open to all those companies listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange.
Commenting on the success, Phil Aspin, Chief Financial Officer at United Utilities, said: “We were delighted to take home this award against some fantastic competition. How we communicate with our investors is hugely critical to us as a business and being able to demonstrate how we are a purpose-led organisation is becoming increasingly important to our stakeholders.
“A large proportion of our shares are owned by pension funds along with customers and colleagues here in the North West, and we use a variety of channels to make sure our communications are as accessible as possible.”
