Literary success for the Quaranteens!

WARRINGTON & Vale Royal College’s English department is celebrating the success of three dedicated students who contributed to a national project organised by the English Association reflecting on life for teenagers during the pandemic.

Headed by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Rebecca Fisher, the project allowed students to express their experiences of the covid-19 pandemic through the medium of writing. The project offered an opportunity for the students to consider what they value most and think about how they can use their experiences in a positive way going forward.

Warrington & Vale Royal College students Katie Sewell, Charley Macken and Nathan Lane collaborated with students from other Further Education colleges to produce The Quaranteens, a collection of poems, stories, diary entries, drawings, and videos which showcase the experiences of young people throughout the pandemic.
The students spent much of their free time attending writing workshops as well as engaging in a number of lively zoom sessions on a national scale, to plan, design and edit the publication.
They contributed various entries to the publication, with Katie writing a poem, Nathan providing a tips sheet on how to survive during lockdown, and Charley producing an article conveying why technology can never replace great teaching. All three students were delighted to represent the college and to see their work published.
Elise Thomas, English Lecturer at Warrington & Vale Royal College, said: “We are really proud of our students and so impressed at the fantastic writing they have produced. We look forward to working with the English Association on future projects.”
