A concerned councillor has called for improved landscaping on an area of land which was recently occupied by an unauthorised traveller encampment at Gorse Covert, Warrington.
Loczl Cllr Nigel Balding has put in a new landscaping request with Warrington Borough Council for Fisherfield Drive in Gorse Covert
He says many local residents will be aware of the various unauthorised encampments made by travellers in Birchwood this summer.
One such encampment, on land owned by the Borough Council, is located between Fisherfield Drive and Gorse Covert Road.
Cllr. Balding has raised the issue at a meeting with the council and asked for the site to be assessed for modifications to deter further incidents.
Feedback from residents so far suggests that the most popular solution is to use landscaping, including trees and earth mounds, which can be maintained under current maintenance schedules but which would make it difficult to access with caravans.
Councillor Balding said: “WBC have experts who design and manage these open areas and they have sadly had to deal with these issues before.
“I’m optimistic that a suitable solution can be found which will look nice for residents, and maybe even enhance our local environment. I’m looking forward to them reporting back ASAP with a proposal”.
