Warrington Worldwide Legacy Project No. 2 – The Roy Humphreys Centre Longford

0

A community centre that provided a lifeline for elderly local residents during the COVID-19 pandemic has become the latest beneficiary of Warrington Worldwide’s Legacy Project – supporting local community groups and charities.

Over the years the centre based at Longford, had some previous funding to support these groups with reduced rent and meals.
This funding ceased a long time ago however the charity has still tried to maintain the discounted food and rent as they are aware of the importance of reducing isolation, improving well-being, having a place for people to socialise and engaging older people who don’t go anywhere other than the centre.
Longford is a distance from the Town centre and local residents rely heavily on the centre for support.
The luncheon club pay £3 each for a two-course meal, games and activities and they support trips and days out where possible for both the luncheon and bingo groups and the community.
The groups of bingo pay £10 a week rent. Which is at least half of what rental should be.
Co-ordinator Amanda Gillespie said: “The group has been impacted by Covid-19 and lost rent from an office and also have offices and spaces for rent, however, nobody seems to have any income to rent.
“The funding will now help support the cost of the meal and towards low rent for four groups for a couple of months.”
The Legacy project involves a grant of £500 to enable local community groups and charities to continue their good work in the local community.
A further eight Legacy Project grants are available. For details on how to apply CLICK HERE
