UNBEATEN Warrington lightweight female boxer Rhiannon Dixon is set to be back in the ring with a bang after an absence of 18 months with the backing of a new sponsor.

The pharmacist-turned-fighter hasn’t had a match since the end of 2019, when the pandemic pulled the plug on a fight scheduled for last March, and any further fixtures but is now returning to the ring with the backing of Golden Square shopping centre .

As she worked on the frontline in the meantime, boxing was her release, and on the 12th September the gloves are finally back on. It’s been an excruciating wait for Rhiannon, but she credits the power of her mind in mental agility as well as physical prowess on her side.
She said: “I’m so grateful to have the support of Golden Square sponsoring me for my upcoming fight and helping me achieve my ambitions.
“I’ve had many happy childhood memories shopping at Golden Square and I can’t wait for my nutrition plan to be over after my fight so I can go shop and eat out there again!
“It’s really fantastic to have my hometown behind me. I’m so proud to represent Warrington as I’ve been born and raised here and have so much respect and admiration for how our town has grown.”
Ian Cox, Centre Director said: “We’re so proud to be sponsoring Rhiannon and she has the support of all of our staff and stores. It’s a huge year for women’s boxing and we can’t wait to see what Rhiannon will bring to the sport next.”
Her coach Anthony Crolla has high hopes that September is set to be a new beginning, and after the enforced hiatus she isn’t likely to let slip the chance to reignite her promising career.
Watch the fight on Friday 12th September in the Premier Suite, Bolton Whites Hotel. For more information visit: gswarrington.com/events
