Westbrook Library set to be transformed into ‘Fun Palace’

RECENTLY-reopened Westbrook Library is set to be transformed into a ‘Fun Palace’ on Saturday 2nd October – as part of the annual celebration that aims to put culture at the heart of the community.

The yearly event sees buildings and organisations turned into ‘Fun Palaces’ for the day with lots of different free activities on offer by local people, for local people.

From crafts to sports, music to digital – a wealth of different topics and interests will be celebrated and showcased.
Previous successful Fun Palace events have been held at Padgate Library and Warrington Museum & Library.
This will be the first time Westbrook Library has hosted a Fun Palace celebration and is a fitting way to mark the reopening of the library on 6th September – which will be reopening for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
The event will also be the launch of the annual National Libraries Week (4th to 11th October) which is a celebration of all that libraries can offer the community. LiveWire’s Community Librarian Team are currently working up a week-long programme of activities which will be shared nearer the time.
Wendy Molyneux, Strategic Library Manager for LiveWire, said: “We are really excited to be turning Westbrook Library into a Fun Palace next month. We can’t wait to welcome the local community along for a day of free, family-friendly activities.
“A Fun Palace puts community at the heart of culture and culture at the heart of the community. It is a fantastic way for people to share their skills, interests and hobbies by letting other people ‘have a go’. So whether it’s arts, science, craft, tech, digital, heritage or sports-related we are looking for people to get involved and offer to be a ‘maker’ for a few hours. You don’t have to be perfect at what you do – we just need your enthusiasm to share whatever it is that interests you.
“Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.”
If you have an idea of how you can get involved or would like to know more then please contact Wendy at [email protected]
