Village nursery marks 50-year milestone with family fun-day

A historic village pre-school nursery near Lymm is celebrating its 50-year anniversary with a family fun-day.

High Legh Pre-School Nursery is hosting the celebratory event, which is open to everyone, on Saturday, September 4.

The much-loved nursery, which is run by a parent-led committee, has been at the heart of the High Legh community since 1971 and over the years has operated out of the village hall and the nearby primary school before finally relocating to its permanent home at Rosemead – a converted cottage on Pheasant Walk.
The nursery, which is a registered charity, has faced a challenging 18 months amid the Covid-19 pandemic, when it was forced to temporarily close for a short period last year, and has also missed out on thousands of pounds of income normally raised through its fundraisers, which had to be cancelled during the pandemic.
The staff and committee are hoping the upcoming family fun-day will help raise some much-needed funds as well as celebrate the landmark occasion.
Ellis Starkey, nursery manager, said: “High Legh Pre-School Nursery has a long-standing history in the village, having welcomed generations of families through our doors over the years, so we can’t wait to celebrate our 50th birthday with the wider community and we hope to see some new and old faces on the day.
“It’s been a difficult year for the nursery as we’ve faced the challenges of the pandemic and this will be our first fundraising event since restrictions have been lifted, so we’re looking forward to seeing our village community come together once again to mark this momentous occasion, and hopefully raise some much-needed funds in the process.”
Activities on the day will include a bouncy castle, stalls, cake sale, table-top sale and children’s games and craft activities.
Tickets cost £7.50 per child, including a party bag, and all proceeds will go to the nursery. The event will run from 10am-2pm and tickets can be pre-booked in advance. To book call 07920 394821 or email [email protected]
