Culcheth drama group moves home after 63 years

AFTER 63 years at Culcheth Sports Club – formerly The Daten – the Culcheth Players drama group has been forced to move home.

They have moved to Newchurch Parish Hall after months dismantling equipment, sorting through props and costumes and transporting endless van loads across the village.
All while having to work within Covid restrictions.

And when the gear arrived at the Parish Hall, it all had to be re-assembled.
A number of members took part in the operation – giving their time to make sure Culcheth Players could carry on.
Spokesperson Julia Nellist said: “The curtain has come down at The Daten and gone up again at the Parish Hall.
“The Parish Hall committee couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating to Culcheth Players. They were extremely patient, too, when they found their hall floor had been taken over by banks of costumes, piles of wood and scenery and boxes of props. However, the work began quickly on the stage area. Cupboards were built, scenery erected, curtains were hung and lights wired in.
“Gradually, the hall was cleared and a home was found for everything.”
The move was necessary because the stage area and dressing rooms at The Daten are being redeveloped as a dance studio.
Now, Culcheth Players are ready to welcome audiences back and are busy rehearsing for a play to be staged on Thursday October 7 to Saturday October 9, at 7.30 pm. Tickets will be £7.50 including light refreshments.
The play is entitled “Inspector Drake and the Perfekt Crime”, a comedy by David Tristram which contains some adult humour.
Tickets can be reserved by phoning 07943 517710 or through Ticket Source at www.culchethplayers.co.uk. Alternatively, they can be purchased in cash on the night of the performance.
Culcheth Players would love local residents to turn up and support them. They would also welcome new members, both for acting and back stage roles. They meet on Monday and Wednesday nights at Newchurch Parish Hall, Common Lane, Culcheth at 7.30 pm.
