Infection rates fall for the first time in more than week as 90 new COVID-19 cases confirmed

COVID-19 infection rates have fallen for the first time in more than a week although 90 new cases have been reported in the latest data from Public Health England.

The 90 (59) new COVID-19 cases take the total number of cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 26,098 (26,008).



Infection rates in Warrington for the last seven days have fallen for the first time since August 13, to 740 (755) – 353.4 (360.6) per 100,000 population over a seven-day period but remain above the national average of 319.8 (310.5) per 100,000, which continues to rise.
Meanwhile, an antibody testing programme for people who have tested positive for COVID-19 is to be launched across the UK.
The government’s new programme is intended to produce data on antibody protections for people following infection by different coronavirus variants.
From Tuesday, anyone aged 18 or over in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, will be able to opt in to the programme when receiving a PCR test.

Current inpatients as of Friday, August 20 (confirmed positive result – 14 days or less from first positive sample) – 25 (30) including 3 (4) in ICU.

There are also 5 long-term COVID-related inpatients at the hospital.

The total number of deaths in Warrington within 28 days of a positive test reported by Public Health England is currently 494 (494) 235.9 per 100,000 population compared to the national rate of 196.2.
The total number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate in Warrington reported by Public Health England in all settings is 576 (573).

Across the UK the daily number of COVID-19 associated UK deaths reported on Sunday, August 22 2021 was 49 (104), taking the total number of deaths to 131,640 (131,591).
The daily number of lab-confirmed UK cases was 32,253 (32,058), taking the total number to 6,492,906 (6,460,930).
Across the country, there are 6,441 (6,441) patients currently in hospital and 928 (928) on ventilation.
