UPDATED: HEAVY rain and unseasonal weather brought travel disruption across Warrington today, with at least five vehicles stranded on flooded roads at Lymm and a scaffolding collapse on the railway track near Centre Station.

Police are warning motorists to drive with care with heavy rain causing flooding and road closures around Warrington.

A car was stuck under the bridge on Burford Lane, Lynmm this morning (Sunday) due to the high water levels, with at least five vehicles stranded and having to be towed to safety in the village during the day.

Oughtrington Lane is also completely flooded near Longbutt Lane with local police advising motorists to avoid the road and use alternative routes.
Marsh House Lane in Warrington was also shut in both directions underneath the railway bridge, following heavy rain overnight.
Police are advising motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes and not attempt to drive through the water.
Meanwhile, the unseasonal weather brought even more travel disruption when trains between Warrington and Liverpool were cancelled this morning after scaffolding had collapsed on the railway near to Central Station.
Scaffolding near the Bewsey Street bridge collapsed during the night.
Northern Rail has put on replacement buses due to an ‘obstruction’ on the track.
A Northern Rail spokesperson said: “Due to an obstruction near to the track, trains are currently unable to call at stations between Mossley Hill and Warrington Central.
“The stations that services are unable to call at are Mossley Hill, West Allerton, Liverpool South Parkway, Hunts Cross, Halewood, Hough Green, Widnes, Warrington West and Sankey for Penketh in both directions.
“Network Rail are on site to try and rectify the problem with further updates to follow.”
