One more COVID-19 death and 86 new cases as infection rates rise slightly again

ONE more COVID-19 related death has sadly been reported at Warrington Hospital, while infection rates have risen slightly in the town with another 86 new cases confirmed.

The 86 (132) new COVID-19 cases takes the total number of cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 24,507 (24,421).



Infection rates in Warrington for the last seven days have risen slightly again for the second time in a week to 685 (664) – 327.1 (317.1) per 100,000 population over a seven-day period– and still above the national average of 268.7 (270.5) per 100,000, which continues to fall.
Meanwhile, England’s estimated R number has fallen to between 0.8 and 1.1, suggesting the pandemic could be shrinking.
Last week, it was between 1.1 and 1.4.
The R value – or reproduction number – between 0.8 and 1.1 means on average every 10 people infected with COVID-19 will infect between eight and 11 others.
The daily growth rate of infections in England is estimated at between -3% and 1%, according to the figures from the United Kingdom Health Security Agency.

The total number of deaths in Warrington within 28 days of a positive test reported by Public Health England is currently 489 (488) 233.5 per 100,000 population compared to the national rate of 194.1.
The total number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate in Warrington reported by Public Health England in all settings is 573 (573).

Across the UK the daily number of COVID-19 associated UK deaths reported on Friday, August 6 2021 was 92 (86), taking the total number of deaths to 130,178 (130,086).
The daily number of lab-confirmed UK cases was 31,808 (30,215), taking the total number to 6,014,023 (5,982,581).
