Warrington Town confirm Accrington Stanley friendly and first new signing

WARRINGTON Town will take on Football League One side Accrington Stanley as part their pre-season programme of fixtures.

Accrington will visit Cantilever Park on Tuesday 27 July, as one of four exciting home games as part of the Yellows programme.

The club has already confirmed home games against Football League side Tranmere Rovers and National League duo Chorley and Southport.

Meanwhile, the first new signing of the summer is a forward from Chorley in the shape of Sean Miller.

Miller, 26, came through the ranks at Chester and has National League experience with Curzon Ashton and Altrincham, as well as a spell in the Welsh Premier League with Connah’s Quay.

Yellows boss Paul Carden said: “Millsy’s a link player who is energetic, busy and can score goals from nothing. He’s had success with the likes of Altrincham and he’s a good age for what we want.

“He’s a good technical player and we haven’t really had that kind of guile in the forward positions since Tony Gray left.

“Sean will add that little bit of touch and technical ability to our front line. He’s got an eye for goal out of nothing and he will be a really good addition for us.

“He can play in any of the forward positions and he’s got a hell of a strike on him, which I hope to see quite a lot of.”

Miller’s signing follows the news earlier in the week that popular striker Josh Amis had committed his future to the club.

Amis, who scored the winning goal in the play-off final against South Shields in 2019, had been playing in Wales for Flint Town United following the suspension of the Northern Premier League season earlier this year.

The pair take Carden’s confirmed numbers up to five, alongside striker Jordan Buckley, defender Eddie Clarke and midfielder Luke Duffy, with several further re-signings expected to be announced prior to the club’s first friendly on Saturday.
