WARRINGTON’S Summer Reading Challenge for children has a wildlife theme this year – with youngsters invited to take a walk on the wild side at LiveWire’s libraries.

The annual scheme that aims to help keep children reading over the school holiday will be available in libraries and online.
Organised by The Reading Agency and funded by Arts Council England, the challenge is always a highlight of the library calendar with all of LiveWire’s libraries getting involved.

Children will be able to access collectors packs, stickers and other incentives to encourage them to borrow books and keep reading. And as this year’s event is being delivered in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund, it has a nature theme with youngsters encouraged to become ‘Wild World Heroes’ and to think about the planet and environmental issues.
All libraries will have ‘Wild World Heroes’events and activities delivered by both LiveWire staff and young Summer Reading Challenge volunteers
Rachel Ralston, LiveWire Community Librarian, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a brilliant way to keep children reading and using our libraries over the long summer break.
“This year’s theme is Wild World Heroes –it aims to inspire children to find ways to help save the planet, whilst helping to prevent the summer reading ‘dip.
“Sign up online or at your local LiveWire library and read at least six books over the summer to earn stickers and other cool incentives. We’re looking forward to seeing lots of World Wild Heroes at our libraries.”
Cllr Tony Higgins, Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure and community, said: “Our Summer Reading Challenges are always hugely popular, and it’s absolutely fantastic news that this year’s event is able to return to our libraries.
“There will be lots of exciting activities on offer across our libraries, designed to introduce children to the joys of reading. It’s the perfect way to connect local children, over the summer months, with the wonder, discovery, learning and inspiration that only books can bring.”
