Active Cheshire appoint new CEO

ACTIVE Cheshire has announced the appointment of Mike Watson as their new CEO, bringing significant experience of working in and with Professional Sport and Activity sector at a national and local level.

The charity is part of Active Partnerships chain across the country that aims to better people’s lives through exercise.



Mike, 37, has joined the non-profit organisation after his career as CEO of Cheshire FA where he led the County Football Association. He worked alongside a dedicated Board and multiple Committees to govern the grassroots game across the County.
Mike is a highly experienced compliance, finance, and communications specialist with a passion for people. The business frontrunner has a track record of leading innovation and for ensuring a supportive, growth-mindset focused environment for staff, and the local community.
Active Cheshire Chair Dr. Paul Hancock OBE commented, “We would like to welcome Mike with open arms to our incredible organisation.
“He brings a vast amount of knowledge in the physical activity and sport areas which tie into our future objectives to embed activity into Cheshire and Warrington communities. I look forward to seeing his work make an impact in this special county.”
The multi-award-winning Charity is passionate about positively changing the lives of people across Cheshire and Warrington out of sport and physical activity.
Commenting on his appointment Mike said, “I am very pleased to have been offered this role and look forward to working with our partners to reverse the huge dent 2020 has left on many people’s physical and mental wellbeing.

The appointment comes at a time when innovation is being recognised as a key driver of the UK’s post-pandemic growth strategy, Active Cheshire set to play a strategically important role to build closer connections with the public and private industries.
As the lead body for physical activity and sport in Cheshire and Warrington, Active Cheshire’s job is to engage, educate, enable, inspire and influence the local community as well as a wide range of organisations, stakeholders and partners locally to adopt an active lifestyle.
