TRAVELLERS have been given permission by Warrington Borough Council to temporarily stay on Silver Lane, Risley, due to non-COVID related health issues.
An encampment arrived on Silver Lane over the bank Holiday weekend, just a few days after the site had been vacated by another traveller encampment.
Local residents raised concerns over litter issues left by the first encampment, while local councillors have been urging the borough council to come up with a permanent solution to ongoing traveller issues in the town.
A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We are aware that there is currently an encampment on Silver Lane, Croft.
“Following a welfare assessment, the group have been permitted to stay temporarily due to non COVID related health issues.”
The Silver Lane site has been used by travellers on numerous occasions in recent years – and even a locked barrier fails to prevent them from gaining access.

They should be ring-fenced and kept isolated from the local community. Yet more excuses and ineptitude from WBC. I guess they’re back in now so we need to rely on the Tories to hold their feet to the fire.
