Double delight for Mersey Valley Golfers

LIGHTNING apparently does strike twice as two Mersey Valley Golf Club golfers defied the odds to record a hole in one on the same day.

With estimated odds of 12500/1 for a single hole in one for an amateur golfer the chances of this feat occurring was huge.

First in line for an ace was 76 years old Wilf Briggs who has been a member of Mersey Valley G.C. for 20 years. The 15 handicapper hit his six-iron over the water into the 15th green and was delighted to see the ball roll into the hole. The 15th is a daunting but picturesque par 3 with a long carry over a large pond into a narrow green.
Next to achieve the ultimate shot in golf was 11 handicapper Paul Jackson who fired a seven iron clean into the hole from the elevated tee on the 7th hole. A new member this year at the Bold Heath club Paul said ” I was absolutely stunned. It’s taken me a long time to get a hole in one but it was worth the wait. The members and staff seemed almost as pleased about it as I was but this is a very friendly golf club. I have been having lessons from Daniel Croft, the pro here, and it seems they are working .”
Mersey Valley Golf Club is a par 72 18-hole course designed and was constructed by St Mellion Leisure, the development side of St Mellion International. Gently undulating with no hills or gradients and therefore attractive to golfers of all ages and abilities it is also sensitively designed to be environmentally attractive with a thousand trees planted and wildlife habitats created. The greens are generally large and provide a quality-putting surface. Fairways are wide and generous. All the tees are elevated but the greatest feature is the superb drainage and at 6,300 yards it still provides a testing round of golf.
Mersey Valley G.C. underwent a change of management 3 years ago and has undergone huge improvements to the course since and facilities with developments to enhance the playing experience constantly ongoing which include much better drainage and several new mowers added to the vehicle fleet.
