TRAVELLERS have again set up an illegal encampment on Silver Lane at Risley, sparking further calls for a permanent site in Warrington.

An estimated five travellers caravans and associated vehicles arrived in Silver Lane over the weekend, breaching barriers erected in an attempt to prevent vehicles from entering the area.

Cllr Wendy Maisey OBE said: “We were advised that an illegal encampment of 5 caravans has again sprung up on Silver Lane. Having been up there personally to review the situation I can confirm this is the case and would like to thank the Warrington Borough Council officers who have attended.
Silver Lane is a hot spot for this activity and a decision is needed by WBC as to the possible locations of the permanent traveller transit site.
“We need to all work together to resolve this matter once and for all for the residents of Warrington.”
“Updates as and when we receive them can be found on our Facebook page @culchethmatters
Warrington Borough Council has ring-fenced money to set up a permanent travellers site in the town but has been unable to find a suitable site, despite extensive searches.
