A full road closure was put in place as police dealt with a car fire near the A49 Winwick road which caused congestion this morning.
The fire, which happened around 9am, resulted in lane closures on the Warrington bound carriageway near to the M62 junction whilst recovery was arranged and a fuel spillage dealt with.
One fire engine attended from Warrington, following reports of a fire involving a car on Newton Road.
On arrival, the crew found a black Volvo car well alight.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.
It is believed that the fire had been started accidentally.
No injuries have been reported.
