M62 closed following concerns over man’s safety on footbridge

UPDATED:THE M62 eastbound between Junction 7 Rainhill and Junction 8 Burtonwood Services was closed in both directions earlier today due to concerns over a man’s safety on a footbridge over the motorway .

At around 1 pm on Wednesday 12 May Cheshire Constabulary received a report of concern for the safety of a man on a footbridge above the M62 between junctions 7 and 8.
Officers swiftly attended.
They escorted the man off the footbridge near to Junction 7.
Then at around 1.15pm on Wednesday 12 May Cheshire Constabulary were informed of colleagues from Merseyside Police pursuing a vehicle on the M62.
The black BWM estate stopped on the hard shoulder between Junctions 7 and 8.
A 23-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for the police and driving without insurance.
He is currently in custody being questioned by officers.
The motorway has since reopened.
