Appleton resident wins argument over his garden wall

AN Appleton resident has won planning consent to alter the front boundary wall of his house – despite objections from two borough councillors, the parish council and a neighbour.

Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee approved the scheme submitted by Mr Sam Norton of London Road.

Planning officers recommended the scheme be approved. They said the wall would be of appropriate design and scale and would be in keeping with the house and the surrounding area.
There would be undue harm to the living conditions of adjacent residents.
Councillors Brian Axcell and Judith Wheeler opposed the proposal on the grounds the changes would be out of character with the local area.
Similar objections came from Appleton Parish Council and a neighbour.
But the committee voted to allow the proposals to go ahead.
