Teenager arrested on suspicion of assault after elderly man kicked into River Mersey

A 15-year-old boy has today been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession with intent to supply cannabis, after an elderly man was kicked into the River Mersey while fishing.

He is currently in police custody while being questioned by police.



Enquiries are ongoing to identify the remaining boy.
As reported earlier today the man was rescued by two teenage girls who were passing at the time of the incident last Sunday, when the man was kicked into the River Mersey while fishing from the bank.
Those responsible ran off laughing. The 74-year-old man, who suffered a head injury made his way home and reported the incident to his family who called police.
