LYMM Runner Sandra Wescombe-Donnelly has just completed the challenge of her life, by running 100 miles in one week in memory of her brother and raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This was 7 days in 7 runs to 7 destinations to toast her late brother, Al, on what would have been the week of his 43rd birthday. At each destination, which included Winsford, Didsbury and Prestbury, she met with various of her brother’s friends to raise a glass in his memory.

Sandra has so far raised over £2,200 for Macmillan. She said: “With pubs reopening, he would have been spending his 43rd birthday week catching up with his favourite people for a birthday drink.
“His 42nd birthday was spent in hospital, in isolation part way through a marathon of 16 days of 24/7 chemo. Birthday tea in a box, alcohol-free beer and a family Zoom party with added snail racing was not what he deserved.
Sandra added: “Thanks to Macmillan Cancer Support, we were able to bring Al home to our house under the Hospice at Home scheme. He spent late July and early August sat in the sun in our garden with his family and friends surrounded by (socially-distanced!) love and laughter.”
She was accompanied and supported on her runs by various Lymm Runner members, some of her brother’s friends and, fortunately, a lot of lovely sunshine.
