One year on Male Voice Choir launch lockdown remix fundraiser

ONE year on from starting twice-weekly virtual rehearsals, Warrington Male Voice Choir has released its latest light-hearted, virtual recording ‘Lockdown Blues 2021 Remix’.

It can be viewed and people across Warrington and the North West are being asked to join in, by going – any time from now – to the Choir’s YouTube channel – see above.

‘Lockdown Blues’, written by Musical Director Russell Paterson, was originally released in May last year, but has been brought up to date by Russell, with new verses, a new arrangement and a new title Lockdown Blues 2021 Remix, to mark the anniversary of when the choir started its virtual rehearsals on 30 March last year, with choristers singing individually from their own homes for the first time.
One of two new verses ends with the line ‘Cos you know how to have a good time when you come from Warrington!’ and the choir is urging people across Warrington (taking note of current COVID lockdown guidelines), to join in the fun, sing along with this verse and the chorus, film their performance and post it on their social media platforms. Obviously, with a simple change of location in the verse, the choir is also hoping people across the North West will join in.
For this anniversary remix, a number of choristers were also asked to record their own ‘visual interpretation’ of a particular verse and that’s how one member surprised his fellow choristers by fixing it for ‘Boris’ to get involved.
Commenting, Musical Director Russell Paterson said: “After a whole year of lockdown and virtual rehearsals, performances and concerts by the choir, my thoughts are summed up by the first line of verse three: ‘But now it’s 2021 and things are just the same’. Having said that, I firmly believe this is the choir’s best virtual recording to date”.
Adding his own thoughts, Chairman Bob Williams said: “We do hope people will join in and if they do, it will be even more recognition for the amazing hard work Russell and the choir members have put in, since that first virtual rehearsal at the end of March last year”.
This Lockdown Blues 2021 remix release will also act as a fundraiser for the choir, which has not performed live for over twelve months. Once people have viewed and enjoyed the recording – and joined in – the choir is hoping they will make a donation to choir funds through its Just Giving page:
