POLICE are warning the public to be aware of scammers after two men were contacted in Warrington by fraudsters claiming to be from the police.

The scammers told them that they were being investigated for crimes.
One of the victims was instructed to transfer funds from his bank into a specified account to avoid arrest, and unfortunately, he did so.
The other man was asked for personal data, including how much money he has in his account. Thankfully he did not disclose any such information.

Telephone scammers can be very convincing.
A police spokesperson said: “We would like to remind everyone that the police, or your bank, will never ask you to withdraw money or transfer it to a different account.
They will also never contact you asking you for personal data, such as how much money you have in your account, or to reveal your full banking password or PIN.
If a scammer calls trying to trick you into parting with your money or personal information, hang up the phone and do not reply.
