BEST known for her singing skills Choir Member Janet Rees from Culcheth is celebrating after being triumphant at Ready! Steady! Cook!

Janet (63) from Culcheth and her sister Anne Marie Collins (66) of Brecon were taken by surprise when Janet’s daughters, Hannah and Rachel applied for them to take part in Ready Steady Cook. After the initial shock Janet, thought it would be a lovely thing to do in memory of her Mum, Mrs. Ceridwen Lewis, who taught them how to cook.
Her mum was a well-known personality in Culcheth but suffered with Alzheimer’s for several years and succumbed to the Coronavirus shortly after her 90th birthday.

After many Zoom interviews – Success!! Janet and Anne travelled to Glasgow for recording on Friday 5th February.
Aired on BBC1 on 3rd March. Hosting was Rylan Clark-Neal. Janet was partnered with Greek Chef, Akis Petretzikis (red tomato) and Anne with Irish chef, Anna Haugh (green pepper).
Janet presented Akis with lemon sole, sweet potato, peas and raspberries. Together they produced a slant on fish and chips accompanied by a lemon butter sauce, caramelised shallots and pea clafoutis (sweet Yorkshire pudding to you and me!)
For the delicious dessert, lemon curd with raspberries and flamed meringue. Judging chefs gave an overwhelming WIN for Janet and Akis complimenting them on their dishes and excellent teamwork. Janet said, “ It was an amazing experience and to be able to have a lovely train journey outside our own area during these restricted times”.
Janet, a former nurse, is a member of the Three Towns Choir and an active member of Newchurch in Culcheth. Make-up! Lights! Janet was not fazed. A familiar setting for her as a member of the Three Towns Society, who perform a musical every year in May at St. Joseph’s Hall, Leigh.
The Three Towns are already cooking up an extravaganza of a concert, with an exciting menu of foot-tapping favourites on 19th & 20th November at St. Joseph’s Hall, Leigh WN7 2PR.
