LOCAL Green Party leader Lyndsay McAteer has paid tribute to the women who “keep our world turning” to mark International Women’s Day 2021.

The Warrington and Halton Green Party leader paid tribute to all women on International Women’s Day acknowledging that there is still a long way to go in the struggle for equality. The gender pay gap urgently needs to be addressed but it is just part of the story.
Lyndsay said: “Women continue to take on the burden of most domestic work in the home, and often have to juggle this with childrearing and caring for elderly parents. The modern-day heroines of our world are contending with a multitude of pressures.”
“Legislation alone will not create equality. Cultural change and a change in attitudes and behaviour are also required. Tough times will continue in a post-Covid world and it’s important that women are not faced with additional burdens as a result.
“In places where the rights of women are improved, it leads to an improvement of rights for everyone. Everyone has a right to realise their full potential. The emancipation of women is clearly linked to the emancipation of everyone.
Lyndsay added: “On International Women’s Day I will especially appreciate the women who are juggling work, kids, home, and family; the women who have little time in the day leftover for themselves. These are the people who keep our world turning.”
