Owners urged to think twice following dog attack incident on Orford Jubilee Park

ORFORD community champion Carol Kilgannon is urging dog owners to think twice before letting their pets loose on Orford Jubilee Park after hearing about a recent dog attack incident.

The plea comes just days after she heard about a dog attacking another dog in the park.
This is not the first time dog walking has been in the spotlight, with Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) in force across the park from 2013. Dog owners caught flouting the rules could have faced fines of up to £1000.
In January 2020 the Council launched a new consultation into ‘dog control related issues.’
Carol, who is the Conservative Party spokesperson in Orford and will be standing as the prospective Councillor in the Ward at the forthcoming local elections said:“Fining dog owners is not the solution, it is about educating dog owners and creating awareness of the expected standards.”
“Warrington Borough Council does have a ‘Good Dog Code’ but most people I speak to don’t know it exists. I would urge all dog owners to enjoy the park and I hope their dogs do too. Ensuring everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience on the park is about courtesy such as if a small dog is in the pen and an owner of a bigger dog wants to use the pen just to wait until the appropriate time.”
“I’d love to meet with other dog owners to create awareness and to educate – it’s not about imposing financial penalties or having draconian measures in place.”
