Local elections briefing for candidates and agents confirmed

0

A candidate briefing has been confirmed by Warrington Borough Council for those who are interested in standing as part of Warrington’s local elections on Thursday 6 May.

The briefing, which will be held via Teams on Tuesday 2 March at 6.30pm, is the perfect opportunity for prospective candidates in both parish and local elections to get their hands on important information about the election process. All you need is a device that can connect to the internet to take part.
The briefing is for prospective candidates – those who are considering standing for election – as well as their election agents, who are responsible for the proper management of election campaigns, including finances. Each candidate standing in the borough council election must have an agent, although a candidate can be their own agent.
Chief Executive of Warrington Borough Council, Prof Steven Broomhead MBE, who is the Returning Officer for the elections, said: “This briefing will be the perfect opportunity for those who are thinking about putting their names forward for election to get any questions they have about the election process answered.
“We want as many prospective candidates and their agents as possible to feel informed about the election process. There are some key dates, legal issues and campaigning rules that candidates and agents will need to be aware of, particularly in light of coronavirus, so I would encourage those who are considering standing to come along.”
All prospective candidates and agents must register in advance so that an invite to the briefing can be sent. You must register no later than Monday 1 March. To register, please email elections@warrington.gov.uk
If you are unable to participate in the briefing or have any questions, please email elections@warrington.gov.uk or phone 01925 442184 to get information on being a candidate.
