MP celebrates National Apprenticeship Week with local businesses

WARRINGTON South MP Andy Carter has welcomed the Government’s commitment to creating apprenticeships during National Apprenticeship Week (Feb 8-14) 2021, as growing numbers of people in Warrington South have started through local schemes.

The theme for this year is “Build the Future” as the Government encourages everyone to consider how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and employers to build a workforce with future-ready skills.
In Warrington South, more than 10,000 new apprenticeships have started since 2010, and the numbers continue to grow, despite the economic difficulties presented by the pandemic.
Mr Carter said: “National Apprenticeship Week gives us the opportunity to celebrate the many fantastic achievements apprentices have made over the last 12 months – despite all of the challenges of Covid – we’ve seen brilliant examples of young people taking huge strides forward in their careers and incredible businesses opening up to new starters who want to learn on the job.
“Meeting some of the apprentices from Optionis Group who specialise in accounting gave me a fascinating insight into the range of options through the apprenticeship scheme, with employees able to start with little experience to those completing MBAs through University during their time of work.
“We’ve seen more than 10,320 new apprentices qualify in Warrington South since May 2010, with key employers like United Utilities and BT Group putting real commitment and value behind hiring young talent to train, driving up standards and introducing new routes into a range of professions.”
The 14th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships showcased the impact apprenticeships can have on communities, local businesses and regional economies and how they all benefit from the impact of apprenticeships.
