Thief who was caught in the act of stealing from outside flood-damaged property fined £300

A 40-year-old man who was caught in the act of stealing items from outside a flood-damaged property at Sankey Bridges, Warrington, has been fined £300 by the town’s magistrates.

Sebastien Sarota, a Warrington man of no fixed address appeared at the town’s Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Monday 1 February, where he pleaded guilty to theft.

As well as being fined £300 he was ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and a £34 surcharge.
Sarota, was captured on CCTV footage looking through a number of boxes that were outside an address on Rostherne Close, Sankey Bridges, which had suffered damage during the recent floods.
The court heard he had not entered the premises but was caught in the act of stealing from boxes outside the property.
