£3 million school expansion plan

COUNCIL chiefs at Warrington are to be asked to support a £3 million school expansion plan to meet the needs of new homes being built in the south of the borough.

The expansion is planned for Grappenhall Heys Primary School which is the nearest school to area of new housing development. It will add an additional 210 places.
Cllr Matt Smith (pictured), cabinet member for children’s services, in a report to be considered by the council’s cabinet on January 11, says the expansion is to provide additional places at the school for additional pupils expected as a result of housing development from September 2022.
There is very little capacity in Warrington South to cater for the increase in pupils arising from current housing development so the expansion needs to coincide with when the majority of new houses are completed across several developments.
Part of the construction work will have to be carried out while the school is open, but the existing school is constructed in such a way to enable the work to be carried out with little or no impact on daily school opening.
Consultation will take place with other south Warrington schools, starting on January 11.
