Online panto brings Christmas cheer to older people

WARRINGTON’S LifeTime Community Centre based at the Gateway produced an online panto via zoom to bring Christmas cheer to older people watching and taking part at home.

To see the year out on a high – LifeTime community centre – put on a Zoom pantomime with people aged 50 and over who would normally enjoy festivities together in person, while many are looking forward to saying “it’s behind you!” to 2020.
It is the first time LifeTime has done panto and more than 50 people watched the online performance of Snow White and the Four Dwarves put on by a cast of 14 centre members and volunteers.
Andrea Rees, LifeTime Officer, said: “2020 has been a difficult year for many of our members but an increasing number are rising to the challenge of embracing technology and connecting with our online programmes.
“All of the panto cast did an amazing job and we hope everyone enjoyed it, next year (fingers crossed) we can put on a show in person at LifeTime.
“Not only did it bring some Christmas cheer, but it also ensured that we could keep in touch with people who would normally be enjoying being at LifeTime.
“Everyone involved worked so hard, it was a five-star performance all round, and a lovely way to finish off a difficult year.”
Whether you are in your fifties, sixties, seventies or eighties and above, LifeTime, which is a part of Warrington Housing Association, can offer age-relevant advice, training, social events and, if you have a health issue, introduce you to the right information and support.
LifeTime had to close the doors in March and brought a new programme of online activities. Members have joined in with singing, exercise and quizzes and lots more.
Gerry Kiddle, Director of LifeTime, said “It’s been a lifeline for many, helping to keep people connected when isolation was a real issue for us all.
“We want people to know they can join LifeTime whether it is online or when we are back at the centre, it’s a great way of keeping connected and having some fun and there is lots on offer.”
