No further COVID-19 deaths reported but 68 new cases show increase in infection rates

WHILE no further COVID-19 deaths have been reported at Warrington Hospital since yesterday, 68 new cases have been confirmed in the town, showing an increase in infection rates.

The 68 (57) new cases in Warrington in the latest daily update from Public Health England takes the total since the start of the pandemic to 8,691 (8,623).
Cases in Warrington for the last seven days are 259 (247) – 123.3 (117.6) per 100,000 population – showing an upward trend in infection rates over a seven day period.
The R number in the UK is between 0.9 and 1, according to latest figures. R represents the average number of people each person with COVID-19 goes on to infect.
Last week, the estimated R number was between 0.8 and 1.0 in the UK – its lowest level since August.
