Public to be asked their views on street trading

WARRINGTON people are to be asked their views on ways of improving street trading in the town.

The borough council’s licensing committee is recommending changes to the current policy which aims to encourage street trading practices sensitive to the needs of local residents and traders, widening choice and enhancing the character of the local environment.
These changes include:
• The adoption of further steps to provide equality and improve safety.
• Making the renewal and variation of applications for street trading licences more efficient.
• The ability to suspend a licence for poor hygiene and additional controls over waste.
• Improving the management of trading near schools.
The council’s cabinet member for environment and public protection Cllr Judith Guthrie (pictured)said: “Our existing street trading policy has helped us maintain a strong well managed trading environment in Warrington. These proposed changes should serve to further strengthen the policy.
“If you have views on our plans please make sure you get involved in the consultation, and have your say.”
The survey is asking local residents their views or comments on a draft revised street trading policy, you can get involved in the following ways:
