AWARD-winning Warrington fund-raising twins Ruben and Elena Evans-Guillen are at it again – this time raising funds to buy portable lung suction machines, which are in high demand during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The dynamic duo are currently taking part in a month-long, 100km Superhero Cycle challenge for the charity MedEquip4Kids and have again received support from a leading housebuilder.
Persimmon Homes has awarded Ruben and Elena , aged nine, £1,000 through their community champions initiative, a match-funded scheme that supports good causes in the local community.
The brother and sister are currently taking part in a Superhero race around the world, an ‘at home’ superhero challenge which is part of the Superhero Series powered by Marvel which will see them travel 100km on wheels, dressed as superheroes!
They are raising money to buy three portable lung suction machines, which have been in high demand during the fight against Covid-19. The funding is through the charity MedEquip4Kids, which improves the health of children in the UK by providing equipment not available from limited NHS resources.
The machines are for NHS Tameside and Glossop’s Integrated Service for Children with Additional Needs (ISCAN) which supports 655 NHS young patients with disabilities and complex health needs, as many children require regular suction treatment to keep their lungs clear of mucus in order to allow them to breathe more easily. These include children with brain injuries, lung diseases, cystic fibrosis and those who have had tracheostomies.
Ruben and Elena’s dad Mark said: “The ISCAN suction machines are vital and in high demand against the Covid-19 battle, as those who already have health conditions are more vulnerable to the virus and a rise in the numbers of children with breathing difficulties will place even more pressure on the NHS this winter.
“The Superhero event is for children with a disability and both Ruben and Elena have ADHD. They wanted to do something during the pandemic that would make a real difference, and the MedEquip4Kids fight against Covid19, felt like an excellent fit – it is about kids helping kids.
“The campaign has captured the imagination and Ruben and Elena are lucky to be one of the chosen families to feature in the Superhero Series Channel 4 TV programme that is due to be aired in December.”
Catherine North, Trusts Fundraiser at MedEquip4Kids, said: “This is fantastic news! We are so grateful to Persimmon Homes, as this will really make a difference to children’s healthcare through what is likely to be a challenging winter.”
Dave Hodgson, Sales Director with Persimmon Homes North West said: “We are delighted to again contribute to Ruben and Elena’s campaign to raise money for such a worthwhile charity – they are a real inspiration.”
The twins have been involved in various fund-raising activities and been recognised for their achievements.
