‘Moobs and Boobs’ campaign launched for breast cancer patients

A ‘Moobs and Boobs’ campaign to raise money for all things breast cancer care for both women and men (yes, men get breast cancer too!) has been launched at Warrington and Halton hospitals.

The campaign got off to a colourful start with two friends, Mairi McLaren and Meg Horrocks, raising an impressive £1,425 alone by undertaking a number of feats. This included Sober October (which the girls said was not easy for two 25-year-olds), winter canoeing in a giant bra, a 15-mile fancy dress hike and dyeing their hair pink.
The donation is the first towards a £10K target which will culminate in Moobs & Boobs supporters climbing Snowdon through the night in June 2021.
The Moobs & Boobs Group was started by Mairi’s mum Pat who was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2020. Pat’s on the chemo/surgery/radiotherapy journey now but remembers well that sickening diagnosis in the breast screening unit. She said “The breast screening unit at Warrington Hospital offers amazing diagnostics and kind, compassionate care, but could do so much more with those ‘above and beyond’ things that the NHS doesn’t fund.”
“Just some of the items that donations could fund include:
-First fit post-op bras are circa £58 each and are provided by WHH Charity – so that ladies can have their prosthesis properly fitted at first appointment whether they can afford a mastectomy bra or not.
-Men get breast cancer too, but have to sit with all the ladies waiting for their results in a female-dominated environment. Imagine having their own waiting space, where they can deal with what might follow away from enquiring glances…
– and so much more…”
Head of Fundraising Helen Higginson said, “Everyone is welcome to join the Moobs & Boobs group, and we are encouraging supporters to be as whacky or make it as challenging as they wish, so long as they commit to fundraising as we have got a lot of ‘above and beyond’ love to create!”

  1. Also a Male Breast Cancer survivor. Nice to see us get mentioned, The comments regarding waiting areas for men . I have actually been told to wait in the corridor while waiting for my mammogram as the area was for women only.
    Keep up the good work
