Chester Road swing bridge causes traffic gridlock

0

TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill on Chester Road, Warrington, earlier today following reports of the swing bridge sticking again.

Many motorists were stuck in gridlock for well over an hour, with many turning around and finding alternative routes.

Peel Ports who own Warrington’s three 125-year-old swing bridges and has committed to carrying out major improvements at a cost of £500,000 per bridge.
The three sites – which cross the Manchester Ship Canal – are situated on Chester Road, London Road and Knutsford Road.
Last October it was announced that work would start this year – but that was before the COVID-19 pandemic struck.
