Warrington Town handed home draw in FA Trophy

WARRINGTON Town will start their FA Trophy campaign at home to Lancaster City.

The third qualifying round match will take place at Cantilever Park on Saturday October 31, with a penalty shoot-out to decide the tie if it’s a draw after 90 minutes.

It will mean these two sides will meet on successive Saturdays, after it was announced at the weekend that the league clash at Lancaster has been brought forward to this Saturday, October 24.

Warrington’s previous assignment, away at Stafford Rangers, had been postponed due to Stafford’s continuing involvement in the FA Cup.

The FA Trophy represents an opportunity for non-league sides to get all the way to Wembley – though the Yellows would have to win through eight rounds to get there.

They enjoyed a memorable run in the competition back in 2017/18, going down 2-1 away at Wealdstone one round short of the quarter-final stage.

The Yellows, who sit top of the Northern Premier League after six games, are in league action tomorrow night at home to Cheshire rivals Nantwich Town (7.45pm kick-off).
